I Can Dig It.
When the uncommonly hip and powerfully creative minds of Alexandra Fisher and Kevin Johnson smashed into each other sometime in the late 90s the result was a somewhat understated "big bang" for designers and consumers alike. IMHO.
It was around 1999 that the pair joined forces and moved to Chicago to create Clamdiggin. Basically, Clamdiggin represents a wholistic approach to marketing, design, creation, application, and education. An approach that includes commentary on how we live with each other and the other beings on the planet, the food we eat and the air we breathe etc., etc.
What's refreshing about Clamdiggin is that their message is neither preachy nor "hippy dippy" (for the lack of a better term). On the contrary there is an innate coolness, honesty and often a nostalgic quality in everything they do. It's as if rather than offering an opinion through their words or work, they're giving it to us just the way it is. See their blog.
From hand-cut, hand-sewn tees and bilby bags with appliqués depicting bugs, animals, flora and everyday objects, to poster sized prints of their beautifully honest photographic works, to their often oversized drawings and paintings, everything is original, one-of-a-kind and of course for sale.
Clamdiggin now operates out of Tucson, Arizona, but can be found, online of course, and their tee shirts can be found internationally in a few select and smart boutiques.
