Eye of the storm
It's the time of year for many of us when we are often reminded of how little control we really have over our Universe as Mother Nature hints and nudges in her own subtle way at who is really in charge. The photographs of Jim Reed give us a small glimpse of what the old girl is capable of stirring up.
Here in the desert, as the monsoon hits, the odd combination of 100º+ temperatures, severe afternoon rainstorms, flash floods, incredible lightning shows and subsequent wild fires keeps us guessing from July through to September. Honestly I am fine with this, as elsewhere, tornadoes and hurricanes loom in the backs of the minds of many, if not on the horizon.
Simultaneously terrifying and beautiful, extremely severe weather occurances would be hard for many of us to even fathom were it not for the few that are willing, or perhaps just crazy enough, to get close enough to capture images of the true power of our Earth's weather systems. Jim Reed is one such person.
Storm chaser and award winning photographer, Jim Reed has been featured as a storm expert all over cable news and has had his photographs published everywhere from TIME to Popular Science. His online portfolio gives us what I am sure is just a taste, of some of the awe inspiring weather Reed and his crew have experienced and captured on camera.
