Yo, Santa! I've Been Nice!

n810.jpg

But was I nice enough, that's the question that's now tormenting me, because you see I really, really, would like to find a Nokia N810 Internet Tablet under the tree come Christmas morning.

Not one of those shiny cell phone thingies, you ask? Oh sure, that would be nice. But just listen to what this little baby packs into a package that's just 3 by 5 inches. First off, it sports a 4-inch WVGA (800 x 480 pixel) display, which will come in handy hitting the net, thanks to its Wi-Fi and Bluetooth/mobile phone connectivity.

Surfing the net on a handheld device like this would be a bit bogus, if not for its Mozilla-based browser providing Flash Player 9 and AJAX support, ensuring that modern sites, and media, display properly. Need to interact with a site or manage your email (including IMAP, STMP, and POP3)? Say hello to a touch-sensitive, slideout QWERTY keypad. Not enough?

Okay, how about media player capabilities for video and audio, with storage of up to 10 MB for 45 hours of music playback? Still not convinced? Well, its Skype support provides VOIP, so while it's no cellphone, you can make net-based calls. No? Tough crowd. Then how about this: it's also a complete GPS system! Still no sell? Well, I give up. But keep one last thing in mind—this slim fellow is running a variant of Linux. So step outside the Apple "sandbox." Nokia has pointed its huge developer community towards the N810, and future models, as a platform of note. Result? A ton of third-party applications.

Like I said, I've been nice.
