Color Conspiracy 2008

color_trend.jpg

First of all, Happy New Year!

And with that, I've been taking a look ahead to 2008 and 2009 color trends in all facets of the design world from interior design to fashion, to graphics and marketing. The hip schemes of the near future have been and are being predicted as we sit and wonder what color we should be thinking in.

I am not entirely sure how these predictions are made. Crystal ball? Third eye? Invocation of personal favorite deities? But I have noticed over the years that when I looked to projected color trends in other industries they tended to coincide with the marketing and advertising world fairly well. Vast right-wing conspiracy?

But seriously folks, as designers and design houses around the globe fight for their place on the cutting edge, the hues for all seasons are quietly, almost unwittingly, dictated to us through wallpaper, paint, exceptionally clad celebrities and even, I suppose, the auto industry. All offering sensory perception altering palettes that can make us laugh, cry, intimidate and titillate without really knowing why.

So the long and short is this - you might look to fashion and interior trends for seasonal color inspiration and apply willingly to your graphic design projects. As people respond to the palettes chosen for their everyday tangible lives they will likely respond similarly to your designs in print and online. I got that from a fortune cookie. You can check sites like Trend Setter and of course Pantone or simply Google "color trends".
